The more drinks, the higher your blood alcohol content (BAC) and the longer it takes to clear out your system. But although some people -- because of their sex, body type and a number of other factors -- get drunk faster than others, we all sober up at the same rate.
The liver does the lion's share (about 90 percent) of the work in metabolizing alcohol -- detoxifying it, breaking it down and removing it from your blood. And everyone's liver metabolizes alcohol at the same basic rate: 1 ounce (29 milliliters) an hour.
